The Productive Capabilities Data Lab is an applied AI research and development hub specializing in industrial strategy. We seek to continuously create and open source high quality data and analytical tools for industrial policy design and implementation.

It is a non-profit, public-purpose collaboration between i3T and RubidiumData .

What we do

Detailed technology and value chain graphs that enable fine-grained mapping and analysis of productive capabilities

We map technologies and value chains at component level, then connect each node to firms, skills, prices, intellectual property, trade data, and policy-relevant analytics.

Based on this fundamental layer, our tools aggregate fine-grained data into the trade, product, and activity classifications used in industrial and trade analysis. The cards below show how our datasets, analytics, and targeting methodologies work. Some of these analytics tools are already public on our public platform.

The production-space mapping starts by assembling granular datasets from a wide range of public information sources and interview-based research.

Downstream value chain decompositions start at the mine and move through the value chain to final products.

Upstream value chain decompositions start at the final product and move back through the value chain to the raw materials, capital goods, labor and other inputs required to produce it.
